About Us
Background:
“Tapestry” is a student initiative launched in 2022 by SDAA/Arts as a platform for student-artistes to develop capabilities in project management, creative direction, interpersonal communication, collaboration, and community service. The series was planned to take place three times a year with the aim of providing opportunities for students to manage a project in its entirety.
In AY22/23, three Tapestry events were held.
Tapestry: MOVE on 3 November 2022, Tapestry: MELODY from 9 January 2023 to 3 February 2023 and Tapestry Arts Festival: Our Canvas from 31 October 2023 to 29 November 2023. Tapestry: MELODY featured 7 Temasek Arts Centre’s CCA groups – Band, Chinese Orchestra, Fusion Percussion, Strings Ensemble, Music Vox, Salvo Drums and Chorale.
There were 40 officials, 97 crew members and 258 performers from the 7 CCA groups. Tapestry: MELODY held 10 different events over 29 days with a total of 1.2k audience attendance. Tapestry Arts Festival: Our Canvas featured 14 arts groups from both dance and music CCAs as well as both service groups of Digital Media & Production Crew and TP Emcees. A total of 14 events were hosted, which included 685 performers, casts, and crews with a total of 2823 audience attendance throughout the whole of Tapestry Arts Festival: Our Canvas.
Tapestry: Metamorphosis will involve all 13 arts and service groups– Band, Chorale, Chinese Orchestra, Dikir Barat, Dance Ensemble, Fusion Percussion, Indian Dance Group, Malay Dance Group, Music Vox, Salvo Drums, Teatro, Digital Media & Production Crew, Emcees.
This year’s theme is “Metamorphosis”, it will depict the journey of development through the aspects of life and growth of a person. The month of November is divided into three acts, each act lasting ten days.
The month would be packed with concerts, workshops, interactive exhibitions, masterclasses, and outreach programmes. Tapestry serves as an opportunity for Arts Groups to propose events that would help them to grow and develop their CCA. Furthermore, promoting the work of Temasek Arts Centre.
